The Brown Boi Project holds our leadership retreats twice a year (in March and October). Each year, we open the application for these retreats in January. We are looking for leaders that come from all walks of life. Some are clothing designers, in the military, social justice leaders, culinary wizards, or social entrepreneurs. They each demonstrate leadership potential and have a strong commitment to becoming their best selves.
Launched in 2010, the Brown Boi Project (BBP) leadership retreats offer a space to rising leaders of color (35 and under) to build their skills in leadership, economic self-sufficiency, and health. We work across race and gender with young masculine-of-center* womyn and trans, queer, and straight men—pipelining them into the social justice movement and field of social enterprise.
*Masculine of center (MoC) is a term coined by Cole that recognizes the breadth and depth of identity for lesbian/queer womyn who tilt toward the masculine side of the gender scale. It includes a wide range of identities such as butch, stud, trans, aggressive/AG, dom, etc.
During the 5-day cohort, you will have the opportunity to work across issues and communities; talk about race, class, culture, gender and sexuality; and explore what a commitment to social justice looks like for you and how you want to help your community. These retreats bring participants from across the country to experience an intensive introduction to community organizing while doing important personal leadership development.
We are looking for people who are interested in a life path or career that builds power for communities of color. You will receive training in understanding power, communications, cross-culture coalition building, personal finance, community organizing, self-care, fundraising, relationship building, gender justice, and personal life planning.
If you are accepted into the program, the BBP will cover your travel, food, and lodging expenses so that you can join us. We look forward to hearing from you! - The Brown Boi Project Team The application opens up each year in January.
