In 2014 the Brown Boi Project went on a statewide tour across California. We reached hundreds of young people of color and racial justice leaders to transform the way we talk about and experience gender in our communities. This tour included daylong gatherings in Fresno, Los Angeles and Oakland. Young people of color came together to share their thoughts on radical love & self-care, power & privilege, while connecting with local organizers in their community.
Over the next 5 years, we plan to have over a million conversations - locally and through social media - to encourage people of color (PoC) all over the nation to think outside of the binary of gender. In doing so, we we prioritize the issues that most affect LGBT PoC, women of color, and PoC with disabilities. Our work will allow us to identify policy priorities for young PoC and bring thousands of new PoC into the gender justice movement. In order to do this, we will bring 5,000 new members into the organization creating the momentum and leadership needed to re-imagine masculinity and gender in this country.
